Because of his devotion to Harry Maguire, Gareth Southgate violates the one rule governing England.

Gareth Southgate’s unwavering devotion to Harry Maguire has violated his one England rule.

England, who defeated their opponents 7-0 back in June, came back from a halftime deficit against a team with just four wins from 14 to draw 1-1 at North Macedonia on Monday, officially securing the highest possible group-stage seeding for Euro 2024. Despite this lackluster performance, the Three Lions managed to secure the point they needed to secure a Pot 1 spot when the draw for the tournament takes place on December 2.

Maguire put up one of the less impressive displays, giving North Macedonia a good first-half opportunity.

The United player, who has been struggling for his team lately, misplayed a pass that put a player from North Macedonia in position, and the center back appeared to knock Elif Elmas down in the box as he recovered.

Maguire was lucky to escape punishment for his clumsy challenge on Elmas because he was not under any pressure when he gave Bojan Miovski possession. Maguire was out of control, even though the fall of the North Macedonia forward was overstated.

It has becoming more difficult to defend Maguire’s spot in the England squad in the wake of the breakout seasons of Marc Geuhi and Levi Colwill, both of whom have produced outstanding play for club and country.

Additionally, Southgate would be violating the one rule he made for himself when he took the England job, initially on an interim basis back in 2016, if he keeps selecting the £80 million United star.

At the time, Southgate gave his England players a warning, saying that form will be used to determine selections rather than reputation.

In fact, he stated to the Daily Telegraph in March 2017 that he is aware that striking the correct balance is essential to his ultimate goal of producing a successful England side.

“I don’t judge people based on their reputation; form matters more. You must choose the players who are most appropriate for the style of game you expect and the opposition.
