Chelsea is prepared to pay Manchester United’s center back next summer. Rafael Varane

Chelsea has reportedly talked about adding Raphael Varane to the squad for the summer.

Axel Disasi helped the London giants bolster their center defense in the summer, but they hope to add more alternatives in 2024. Since Thiago Silva is already 39 years old, Chelsea needs to find a replacement for him as quickly as possible.

According to Phillips, a board member of Chelsea has advised co-owner Todd Boehly and the Blues to recruit Varane from Manchester United. The journalist did note, though, that according to his sources, a transfer is not likely to happen soon.

Unlikely transaction.

Varane decided to join United in the Premier League after having a fantastic and distinguished career at Real Madrid. Although he has been a vital member of the team, his playing time has significantly decreased recently. Prior to the international break, the Frenchman was frequently used as a replacement, starting ahead of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans.

Varane may be available for £17–26 million in the January transfer window, according to Florian Plettenberg’s revelation yesterday. It remains to be seen if Chelsea will make a move. Despite joining Chelsea toward the end of his career, Silva has been a tremendous hit. However, the club has since modified its transfer philosophy and is now concentrating on signing players who have room to grow with them.

Varane most definitely does not fit that description. He is no longer at the height of his playing abilities, and as January approaches, his future at United appears uncertain. In addition, considering Chelsea’s past experiences with comparable issues, they might not want to take a chance on him given his injury history, which has been worrying for some time. Due to injuries, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, and Wesley Fofana have not played a single minute this season.
