Confirmed: Erik ten Hag Accepts Mason Greenwood Deal After Man United Talks!
Man United manager Erik ten Hag is SILENCED over Mason Greenwood and refuses to comment on his dropped charges beyond a club statement, as striker faces internal investigation
Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on acquiring two new strikers for Manchester United during this summer transfer window. While Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund appears to be his preferred choice, there might be a backup plan involving Mason Greenwood.
The young English forward is expected to make a comeback this season, and Ten Hag seems to be considering him as a potential option for the team.
Manchester United has taken steps to pursue Hojlund and has made a verbal bid of around £51 million for the 20-year-old Danish international. Hojlund is said to have chosen Old Trafford over PSG as his desired destination.
However, recent reports indicate that Ten Hag initially intended to bolster his attacking options with two new signings. Without significant player sales, the club’s budget may not extend much beyond the cost of acquiring Hojlund, potentially limiting Ten Hag’s options.
Mason Greenwood’s situation adds an intriguing twist to the scenario. The player’s future with the club is uncertain as an internal investigation is underway following the dropping of charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control against him by the Crown Prosecution Service.
In light of these developments, Greenwood’s return to the team could serve as a timely and valuable addition, providing an alternative solution for Ten Hag’s striker requirements.
Ten Hag indicated earlier in preseason that he had informed United of his position on Greenwood’s future as he prepared for his second season in charge.
“It’s a club decision, and of course, I shared my opinions, but it’s a club decision, and we all have to accept that,” he told reporters.
“I can’t say much about it, but I did express my opinion, so let’s see what happens.”
And it would make sense for Ten Hag to consider Greenwood as a potential new acquisition this season, considering that his suspension began before his arrival.
United are lacking striker alternatives following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in November. If Marcus Rashford is unavailable, Ten Hag has just the injury-prone Anthony Martial to fall back on.
The addition of Hojlund would relieve a lot of that burden. Greenwood, on the other hand, might compete for a starting spot up front or on the right if he rediscovers his electrifying promise after breaking into the first squad.
His comeback to football will be polarizing, and whoever he plays for next should manage him well.
Ten Hag, on the other hand, may see Greenwood as a valuable option if United allows him to stay.
