Edwin van der Sar intends to speak with the goalie of Manchester United
Edwin van der Sar, a legend of Manchester United, has replied to Altay Bayindir on social media.
In the summer, Erik ten Hag signed Bayindir to play as Andre Onana’s backup at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman’s response to the Turkey international’s recent claim that Edwin van der Sar is one of his favorite goalkeepers could be interpreted as harsh, but at least it starts a conversation that they can continue in the future.
In response, Van der Sar is adamant that he is a larger fan of Onana, which is understandable given that the Cameroonian is United’s starting goalkeeper.
Ten Hag chose Onana as his summer backup goalkeeper after getting to know him during his time at Ajax. However, Dean Henderson left Old Trafford for Crystal Palace, and another goalie was signed.
Bayindir hasn’t yet made his United debut, though.
In a recent interview with club media, the Turk disclosed that Van der Sar used to be his favorite United keeper. “When I was younger, I watched a lot of Manchester United games, and my favorite goalkeeper—I say this and Edwin van der Sar is a legend, I know him,” stated Bayindir.
“Hello Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about goalkeeping but my favourite is still Andre as you will know!” Van der Sar responded to the Instagram video that United had posted.
If Bayindir wants to disprove Van der Sar and other people’s assumptions about his abilities, all he has to do is seize the moment when it presents itself. In the event that Onana fails a late fitness test, the Turkey international might make his debut this coming weekend.
In addition, United might have to rely on Bayindir for the African Cup of Nations, which might keep Onana busy in January and February.
