First Interview: De Gea breaks down in tears as he gives fans a heartfelt message following the frenzied rumours about his potential transfer to Manchester United
David De Gea posted a mysterious message on social media, adding further fuel to the fire of rumours about his possible return to Manchester United.
During the summer transfer window, the Spanish custodian said goodbye to the Red Devils after an incredible 12-year career at Old Trafford.
To replace De Gea, United invested a substantial £43 million in Andre Onana of Inter Milan. Onana’s performance at the club thus far has been uneventful, nevertheless.
Erik ten Hag has pledged his support to Onana, but because of his international commitments with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, Manchester United may be without their custodian for a month in January.
Having completed a £4 million contract from Fenerbahce in September, Altay Bayındır is yet to make his team debut.
According to The Sun, De Gea, who is presently in Manchester, is reportedly in discussions with United about a potential return to provide cover for Onana.
Last summer, De Gea hinted at his exit from United as his contract neared its end by posting a ‘thinking face’ emoji on Twitter. This unusual post suggested that his time at United was coming to an end.
De Gea appears to have once again addressed the swirling rumors today through his social media activity, particularly on Twitter [X]. He posted a ‘quizzical’ face emoji, seemingly in reference to the reports regarding his return.
The possibility of De Gea’s sensational return to the north-west remains uncertain, but he is still without a club, despite being a free agent.
Erik ten Hag may face questions about De Gea when he addresses the media before Sunday’s clash against Manchester City on Friday.
