Following Kobbie Mainoo’s response to being replaced, supporters believe he has the makings of a future captain.

In the 81st minute of Manchester United’s thrilling Premier League victory over Aston Villa, Kobbie Mainoo’s response to being replaced went viral.

Erik ten Hag gave the 18-year-old midfielder from Stockport his third consecutive start on a chilly Tuesday night at Old Trafford, and he did not let him down.

He set the pace in the midfield, particularly in the second half when United struggled to overturn a two-goal deficit.

Furthermore, he appeared comfortable in a single pivot even though he was paired with Christian Eriksen, who has a history of defensive lapses.

Despite facing Douglas Luiz, who is considered to be one of the league’s top midfielders this season, Mainoo showed maturity and poise in front of the camera.

Following a brace from Alejandro Garnacho in the second half that helped United square the game, Mainoo was substituted by fellow midfielder Scott McTominay.

With 10 minutes remaining, the talented teenager inspired the home crowd by applauding a section of them and throwing his arms in the air to get them psyched up. He then made his way to the Old Trafford bench.

Before Erik ten Hag acknowledged Mainoo for his performance, he also yelled, “Come on!”

“That’s our future captain right there,” one person remarked, while another stated, “The kid actually understands what it truly means to play for Manchester United.”

Another said, “Proper proper player, he shouldn’t have to be doing this much at 18 but he’s been comfortably our best midfielder since returning from injury.”

“Mainoo is an incredible talent, but it’s so clear the lad has character too,” a fourth person said. Sincerely, it’s wonderful to witness acts such as electrifying the audience upon being substituted.”

Alejandro Garnacho, a teammate, also participated in the activity. “Mainoo is our future captain,” stated a message on X, the former name of Twitter, which the Argentinean clicked “like.”

Erik ten Hag, like many United supporters, has been duly impressed by the youthful sensation’s breakthrough campaign.

Ten Hag was all over Mainoo after their 0-0 draw with Liverpool earlier in the month. The Dutch manager remarked, “If you are good enough, you are old enough and he proved that.”

We will like those games even more once he becomes accustomed to them. Because of his quick reflexes and ability to scan the field, he can make quick passes (three or four passes) and switch plays, making him a player who can severely hurt opponents.”

Mainoo, who has played eight times for the Reds this season, is probably going to play when Manchester United visits Nottingham Forest on December 30.
