How Manchester United and FC Copenhagen should lineup for their Champions League match
On Wednesday, Man United takes on FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, and our writers have revealed their starting lineups of choice.
On Wednesday night, Manchester United takes on F.C. Copenhagen in another crucial Champions League match.
Despite putting on another lackluster effort, United recovered from back-to-back 3-0 losses to Manchester City and Newcastle to win a crucial three points against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
After a close loss to Copenhagen in the rematch at Old Trafford, United is again looking to win consecutive games against the Danish team thanks to a late goal by Bruno Fernandes.
In terms of team news, Victor Lindelof will be available once more after missing the Fulham match due to illness. Casemiro will be out until Christmas due to a hamstring issue.
The center half who can only play once a week should be replaced by another at United. The only sensible substitution for Jonny Evans in the back four would be Raphael Varane. At Fulham, Diogo Dalot made improvements on the left.
Scott McTominay played well over the weekend, and United needs him in this match. Christian Eriksen didn’t have much money over the weekend, but his experience and cunning might prove valuable.
The gloomy Antony ought to be far from the starting line. Despite his awful tenure at United, Mason Mount is still better than Antony. Alejandro Garnacho needs many starts to improve his rhythm, as he looked dangerous in the second half on Saturday.
Ten Hag may have to make a few changes tonight to shake things up, but he still wants continuity in his starting lineup.
Maguire and McTominay were the two standout displays over the weekend, while Evans currently holds a higher ranking than Varane but cannot be counted on to start two games in a row.
Fernandes may move into the central midfield position to make room for Mount, who has to be given the opportunity to play in his preferred midfield role to determine if he can truly succeed in a United shirt.
Although Pellistri has never performed well right away, he is still a better choice than Antony, and if Rashford is well enough, he must start. Despite his difficulties thus far, Hojlund remains the undisputed option for central attack.
United should make a few changes from the Fulham win and the first should be Varane coming back into the side. Evans didn’t really put a foot wrong on Saturday but it would be baffling to see him start over the Frenchman again.
The midfield from Craven Cottage should stay the same by default because Amrabat is yet to convince that he’s up to this level and there are lack of options with Casemiro unavailable.
After being jeered off by his own fans during the match against Fulham, Antony will need to sit out the remainder of the season. If fit, Rashford should play on the other side, while Mount should play on the right.
Although Garnacho performed better in the second half of the weekend match, it makes sense to start him off the bench for such a crucial match.
