“I was left in tears after agreeing to a six-year deal at Man Utd but failing my medical.”

Prior to his move to Old Trafford from West Ham, ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince was ‘left in tears’ after his six-year deal nearly fell through

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has disclosed that he was left “in tears” when it appeared that his proposed transfer to Old Trafford had failed.

Ince joined Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 1989 after rising through the ranks at West Ham United in the 1980s. However, issues that arose during his medical nearly forced Ince to rejoin the Hammers.

Ince thought that his failure in his medical would ruin his hopes of playing for Sir Alex. Naturally, the transfer was eventually completed at Ferguson’s request, and Ince went on to win two FA Cups and two Premier League crowns.

Regarding his departure from the Hammers, Ince told talkSPORT, “I was in the process of agreeing a contract with John Lyall and West Ham for the next three or four years.”

I constantly getting cuts on my automobile since I lived in a dangerous neighbourhood. The reason it was getting hacked up was that it was outside the Pipers’ Arms, a pub. When Lou Macari entered, the contract was missing. At my age, it was determined that receiving £1,000 a week was not appropriate for me. That served as the foundation.”
