Joao Neves, a Manchester United target, receives a transfer message from Man City player Bernardo Silva.

Manchester United and Manchester City may both enter the fight for Benfica star Joao Neves, who has been strongly linked to Man Utd in recent weeks.

Bernardo Silva has made hints that he would try to sabotage any potential Joao Neves trade with Manchester United by persuading him to sign with Manchester City instead.

Neves has had a fantastic 15 months with Benfica in his own country, making 38 appearances for the formidable Portuguese team since his August 2022 debut. The 19-year-old has easily taken over for defensive midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who was traded to Chelsea for £105 million last summer.

Naturally, prominent European clubs have taken notice of his form, and United has been linked to a bid for the teenager. Scouts from Erik ten Hag’s team have reportedly visited The Estádio da Luz, according to many media sources, and club captain Bruno Fernandes has shown great admiration for the teenage talent.

However, Silva appeared to imply that he will attempt to entice Neves to the Etihad when he spoke at the most recent Quinas de Ouro gala, where he and Ruben Dias were recognized for winning the Champions League and treble with City.

According to statements obtained by Jornal de Noticias, Silva stated, “I’m very happy for Joao Neves and the kids who are appearing at Benfica and in the national team.” “In the English Premier League? Good athletes may compete in any championship.

“I see him concentrating on the club; right now, that’s the most important thing.” He still has a very bright future ahead of him.

“If the selection feels that he can assist us try to win the European Championship, he has successfully assimilated into the national squad. Naturally, I would try to push for him to join Manchester City if I could.”

Throughout the summer, Silva was once more connected to a departure from City, and the midfield player has been open about his desire to find a new challenge abroad. The 29-year-old, however, decided to sign a contract extension that will keep him in the city until 2026 following months of rumors.

Silva is now set up for a fantastic few years where he can continue to establish himself as one of City’s most successful players and pursue European and World Cup success with Portugal.

“At club level we are trying to create a legacy of one of the best teams in English football,” Silva stated. One of my biggest goals as a member of the national team is to win a World Cup. I’m ambitious and want to support the team in achieving that objective.”
