Live on Man United Takeover: Glazers will soon sign documents to make the new owners’ identity officially known today. LONDON Carrington is ecstatic

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not the only billionaire who wants to own a piece of Manchester United; the American Leon Cooperman is reportedly on the verge of purchasing a million shares in the team.

Ever since the Glazer family revealed their intention to sell Manchester United in November 2022, there has been a great deal of conjecture regarding the team’s possible new owners. It was soon clear that Sheikh Jassim of Qatar, a banker, and Ratcliffe, the owner of INEOS, would be among the leading bidders.

Both groups traveled to Old Trafford to share their different suggestions for raising the Red Devils’ level of play both on and off the field.

Then, at the last minute, Sheikh Jassim made a massive £5 billion offer. When the Glazers refused this, he withdrew from the negotiations, giving Ratcliffe the best opportunity to reach an agreement.

Ratcliffe, 71, claims to be a Manchester United supporter and is willing to pay £1.3 billion for a 25% ownership position in the team. Monday was supposed to be his Manchester United debut, but that date has been moved up even further.

Cooperman is willing to “take a late stake” from the Glazers, according to Bloomberg, suggesting a big shift in the Man United takeover.

Cooperman said on Tuesday night that he wanted to purchase a million shares, which are now valued at $16.8 million (£13.5 million).
