Man Utd: Ornstein claims that an uncapped England prospect “approached to represent DR Congo at AFCON.”

According to David Ornstein, DR Congo’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a defender for Manchester United, has been “approached to represent” his country at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Wan-Bissaka may play for both the DR Congo and England. He has represented the former five times at the youth level and the latter once with their Under-20 squad.

Sadly, there are a ton of right-backs available for Gareth Southgate to select from, so the 25-year-old will have to wait to play for his senior national team.

Though playing for DR Congo has always been an intriguing prospect, it is thought that the Manchester United star would prefer to represent England.

Additionally, Ornstein, a correspondent for The Athletic, claims that there is a chance to participate at the AFCON with the African country.

According to Ornstein, Wan-Bissaka is still undecided and is “considering the opportunity.”

The 25-year-old will change his international allegiance and miss some time with the Red Devils in early January if he accepts the offer.

Ivory Coast’s mid-season competition takes place from January 13 to February 11; nevertheless, his absence would certainly depend on how the Democratic Republic of the Congo performs.

Wan-Bissaka’s deal with the Red Devils expires at the end of the current campaign. Although Southgate called him up in September 2019, Wan-Bissaka was forced to withdraw because of a back ailment.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana of Cameroon and Moroccan forward Sofyan Amrabat are two more probable absences for United.

Following his success at Crystal Palace, where he established himself as a premier right-back, Wan-Bissaka looked certain to make an England regular.

His performance at Old Trafford, though, has been wildly uneven.

Since Erik ten Hag joined the team last year, Wan-Bissaka’s performances have definitely improved, but not enough to earn him an England cap.

He signed a £50 million contract with United in 2019 and has played 168 games for the Premier League’s top team.
