Manchester United and Newcastle are vying for Rayan Cherki of Olympique Lyon.

If Bruno Fernandes is considered a midfielder, then Manchester United’s strikers have yet to score in the Premier League after 11 matchdays this season, bedeling the team’s lack of goal threat.

The team appears to have identified that weakness and focused on a possible “superstar in the making” to solve their offensive problems.

According to Football Insider, United and Newcastle United are vying for the signature of Rayan Cherki, the star player for Olympique Lyon.

Since making his debut, Cherki, a product of Lyon’s development system, has been hailed as one of the top talents in French football.

Even at the age of 20, he has already made appearances for his boyhood club that total more than three figures, demonstrating the great regard in which the group holds him.

But since his contract is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2025, other teams have been made aware of his possible availability.

Although Lyon’s contract contains no release provision, their perilous position may make them susceptible to a mass departure led by Cherki. This is due to the French team’s total collapse in the league this year.

The once-dominant teams are now at the bottom of the league table due to fan dissatisfaction, declining performance, and several ineffective managers.

Cherki hasn’t been able to alter the fact that they are the only team in the league without a victory.

In his ten appearances, he has only managed one assist, and his play has declined as a result of the team’s general illness.

Cherki is viewed by United as a potential addition to their attacking lineup, and the team hopes that he and the other talented young players at the club may develop into elite players.

Together with Cherki, players like Alejandro Garnacho, Amad, and Facundo Pellistri, who have already played for United, might secure the team’s offensive future for the next ten or so years.

United may be able to get one of the best prospects in international football if they can persuade Cherki to support their initiative before Newcastle, who now appear to be more stable.
