Marcus Rashford suffers a setback for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag reveals Jadon Sancho’s selection

Your Man United morning headlines on Saturday, December 9.

This afternoon, Manchester United will return to Premier League action when they host Bournemouth.

In their 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday, Erik ten Hag’s team gave one of their best performances; Scott McTominay scored both goals. The Reds have already won six of their last eight league games, and with one more win, they can tie Manchester City for fourth place.

Ten Hag will have to make at least one change from the midweek match because Bournemouth, who have won three of their past four games, are going through their own purple patch. Due to an injury, Victor Lindelof will not be able to play.

Here are your Saturday morning headlines.

Rashford doubt

Marcus Rashford is a doubt for United’s game with Bournemouth after missing Friday’s training session due to illness.

Rashford was dropped for the 2-1 win against Chelsea in midweek after some disappointing performances, but having been forced to miss the final training session before Saturday’s game with the Cherries he is now a doubt to even make the matchday squad.

Rashford has just two goals to his name this season and only one from open play, at Arsenal on September 3. He scored a penalty in the win at Everton two weeks ago but then struggled at Newcastle last week and was axed against Chelsea.

Antony replaced Rashford and impressed again on the right, while Alejandro Garnacho has been playing well on the left so both wingers are likely to keep their places against Bournemouth.

Ten Hag said Sancho’s training form had resulted in his omission but, in a Twitter post, Sancho urged followers “please don’t believe everything you read” and that he was being “scapegoated”.

Sancho has not played for United since they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 on August 26 and he was omitted from their squad photo in September. The 23-year-old is still training at their Carrington complex but he has been banished to the academy building, where Sancho has to get changed in a locked room for safeguarding issues.
