Red Devils Strike Again: Man Utd in Contact for £34m Harry Maguire Hijack

Manchester United may ruin Manchester City’s transfer plans with a Harry Maguire hijack repeat this summer.

In a bid to fortify their defense before Manchester City this summer, Manchester United is reportedly on the verge of repeating its Harry Maguire hijack.

According to circulating rumors, United’s manager Erik ten Hag is actively seeking to bolster the team’s backline by securing the signature of free agent right-back, Benjamin Pavard, currently with Bayern Munich.

Ten Hag, who took charge of United last summer, has already made significant defensive reinforcements with the acquisitions of Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.

However, his ambition to further strengthen the right side of the defense has led to interest in Pavard, a promising talent available in the free-agent market.

United’s pursuit of Pavard is set to encounter fierce competition from Premier League rivals, including Manchester City, Juventus, and Liverpool.

The battle for the highly sought-after defender is expected to be intense, as multiple top-tier clubs vie for his services.

As the transfer window unfolds, all eyes will be on Old Trafford to see if Manchester United can replicate its past transfer successes and secure a defensive coup by landing Benjamin Pavard before their rivals.

But if the Red Devils can swoop in and seal a deal for Pavard, valued at £34m on Transfermarkt, it would replicate their success in the battle to sign Maguire.

City were leading suitors for Maguire in the early summer of 2019 before United entered the race hell-bent on luring him to M16.

United fended off their rivals’ interest to secure an £80million transfer from Leicester City, and he enjoyed a positive maiden season at the heart of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence.

Maguire later became club captain, but his Old Trafford career hit a downward spiral due to an off-field incident on holiday in Mykonos and a subsequent dip in form.

And he has since lost his status as a regular starter under Ten Hag, who prefers to partner £57m signing Martinez with Raphael Varane.

Maguire is now fourth-choice behind Victor Lindelof and was even snubbed for Luke Shaw on occasions last season.

Red Devils supporters would hope Pavard’s move garners more success if he were to join from Bayern in the coming weeks.

But right-back likely won’t be a priority for United as talks over Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund continue.

Ten Hag also reportedly wants a second midfielder this summer, with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat heavily linked with a switch.
