Report: Former Spurs player is the front-runner to become Manchester United’s sports director

Paul Mitchell, the former head of recruitment at Tottenham, is reportedly the front-runner to become Manchester United’s next sporting director, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Following Mauricio Pochettino from St. Mary’s to the North London club, Mitchell moved to Tottenham as head of scouting from Southampton. He then rose to the position of head of recruitment at the club.

The 42-year-old has been Monaco’s sporting director for the past three years after leaving Spurs in 2018 to join the Red Bull Group.

During the summer, there were rumours that the Spurs could try to bring back Mitchell to replace Fabio Paratici (GiveMeSport). However, that plan was abandoned, and Johan Lange was subsequently hired by the Lilywhites.

Is Paul Mitchell going to play for Manchester United again?

Mitchell has emerged as the front-runner to take over as the Red Devils’ next sporting director, according to Jones, who has taken to social media to disclose that INEOS Group is planning to purchase a minority position in Manchester United.

Toby Alderweireld and Son Heung-min were two of Paul Mitchell’s big hits while he was at Tottenham, but the Englishman also had some big misses while playing for Monaco. Therefore, I don’t think his reputation as a brilliant talent picker is really justified.
