Sergio Reguilon’s injury setback for Manchester United suggests he might stay longer than anticipated.

Tyrell Malacia’s injury recuperation has taken a blow, and he won’t be able to play until next year.

The Manchester United full-back had surgery in the summer to address a knee issue, but his recovery hasn’t been easy.

Malacia hasn’t played yet this season and may need to sit out more time.

Malacia had hoped to make a comeback as early as November, but the setback has been confirmed by a statement on Man United’s website.

“Tyrell Malacia is on track to return to action early next year as he heals from a knee injury,” the article stated.

“After undergoing surgery over the summer, the left-back for the Netherlands has not appeared in any games this season.

Sadly, he had a relapse that necessitated more surgery during his recuperation.

“This has been successfully completed and Malacia is now back at Carrington working hard to be fit early in the New Year.”

Sergio Reguilon may so be coming to Old Trafford for a longer spell.

With a break clause that kicks in in January, the Spanish defender came on a season-long loan from Tottenham.

Malacia’s injury means that the Tottenham left-back may be retained, even if that option would have been activated had he finished his comeback to activity.

Reguilon could stay longer than Man United had anticipated after arriving on loan throughout the summer.

Malacia became Erik ten Hag’s first recruit at Man United in the summer of 2022, coming from Feyenoord.
