Edmond Tapsoba attracts interest from Manchester United

Manchester United supporters have welcomed the prospect of the club signing Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, United, who will get their Premier League campaign up and running at home to Wolves next week, admire the 24-year-old. The Reds plan to bring in a new centre-back ahead of the window slamming shut on September 1, as Harry Maguire nears an exit.

The England defender is closing in on a move to West Ham United after United accepted an offer in principle from the Londoners. Maguire has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and an exit would suit all parties.

United, however, plan to react to his expected departure by bringing in a replacement centre-back to compete with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof. The Reds have already drafted in three new signings and still want another defensive midfielder.

Tapsoba, who joined Leverkusen in 2020 from Portuguese club Vitoria de Guimaraes, has gone from strength to strength during his time in Germany, making a total of 137 appearances for the club, chipping in with five goals. Furthermore, he started all but one of their 34 Bundesliga fixtures last term.

The Burkina Faso international is highly thought of for his ball-playing expertise and capabilities to pick a pass. He likes to stride out from the back in possession and instigate attacks.
