Spurs considering shock move for Romelu Lukaku as Harry Kane replacement

Spurs are reportedly tempted to make a move for Chelsea flop Romelu Lukaku as their replacement for outgoing talisman Harry Kane.

Kane has been Bayern Munich’s top target in the summer window and the Bundesliga champions have been in constant discussions with Spurs.

Three bids were knocked back before Spurs accepted an offer of £86.4 million on Thursday morning.

An update from Sky Sports claimed that Kane was “increasingly likely” to stay put at Spurs, where he is the club’s record goalscorer.

But then late on in the evening David Ornstein from The Athletic, following on from Florian Plettenberg, broke the news that Kane had been given permission to travel to Germany for his medical and sign on the dotted line.

Spurs now have the almighty task of attempting to replace their main man and Gazzetta dello Sport claim they are weighing up a shock swoop for Lukaku.

The Belgian striker is surplus to requirements at Chelsea, having returned from a loan spell at Inter Milan.

The Blues are looking to offload him for a second time even if it makes taking a big loss on the £97.5 million they paid to bring him back to Stamford Bridge for a second spell.

They would seemingly even be comfortable selling to Spurs but the report does note that new boss Ange Postecoglou isn’t too big a fan of Lukaku “from a technical point of view”.

There is also the fact that the former Manchester United and Everton man does not wish to stay in the Premier League and wants to be playing in Serie A again.

Juventus are in for him and there was even talk of a swap deal involving Dusan Vlahovic going in the other direction.

However, Juve’s fans are strongly against the transfer and continue to protest against the transfer. The Curva Sud group recently unveiled a banner which read “Lukaku stay in Milan, we already have a second goalkeeper.”

Following that, thousands of Bianconeri supporters stormed the Allianz Stadium pitch to chant “Don’t sign Lukaku!” on Wednesday.

Lukaku, who is back at Chelsea’s Cobham training base but away from the first-team, has 121 Premier League goals to his name.
