Taking over as manager of Manchester United from Erik Ten Hag, Zinedine Zidane has made his choices known for five players

Zinedine Zidane has previously made it clear that Raphael Varane would replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Due to United’s recent poor play, which included a 4-3 Champions League loss to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday, Ten Hag is coming under more and more criticism.

While some have criticized the Dutchman’s selections and the makeup of his team in recent weeks, others concur that there are currently more urgent issues at Old Trafford.

Zidane is, in any event, the overwhelming favorite to replace Ten Hag should United choose to part company with him.

The famed Real Madrid and France manager has led the squad twice at the Bernabeu, although he hasn’t held a job since leaving the team for the second time in 2021.

Varane was one of his key players in both stints after moving to Real from Lens in France in 2011.

United had expressed a strong interest in him as well, but he revealed that a key reason he decided to turn them down and sign with Real Madrid was the club’s decision to sign Phil Jones in his stead.

Zidane was directly involved in the transaction, stating in an interview with RMC after it was completed that his meeting with Jose Mourinho was essential. This is the most important because he will be the coach leading the team.

“They joined forces. That’s essentially it, too. Varane is quick, sharp, and a significant player, much like [Laurent] Blanc, from what I’ve seen of him.

Varane was once again a target for United when Mourinho took over at Old Trafford, but the Frenchman chose to stay at the Bernabeu, citing Zidane’s presence as a key factor.

With the legendary midfielder now a member of United, Varane will undoubtedly be a key player for him.
