Manchester United

Ten Hag returns to the Eredivisie as Man Utd disrupts the competition for a €40 million winger with an impressive assist total.

According to sources, Manchester United is now a contender to recruit Johan Bakayoko from PSV in the Eredivisie.

In 2022–2023 Bakayoko had a breakout season with PSV, tallying five assists and seven goals from 33 games. It resulted in rumors of a summer transfer to the Premier League, when Brentford offered to match the club record.

TEAMtalk was also informed by sources that Burnley and Liverpool were interested in Bakayoko, but in the end, he decided to stay in Eindhoven.

Bakayoko has been connected to Tottenham, Brentford, and Liverpool once more since the summer transfer window ended in anticipation of 2024.

Journalist Christopher Michel of Sport1 has now disclosed that Man Utd is prepared to fight for Bakayoko’s signing.

Players from Eredivisie teams have joined Man Utd during the Erik ten Hag period, including Tyrell Malacia (Feyenoord), Lisandro Martinez, and Antony (both Ajax).

These days, Bakayoko is making a name for himself as one of the finest players in the Dutch league. To give an example, in the 2023–24 Eredivisie, only teammate Joey Veerman has recorded more assists than him with eight.

After then, Bakayoko will be the focus of attention once more in the run-up to the January and summer transfer windows of 2024.

With Bakayoko’s contract expiring in2026, it is now projected that PSV will ask for a sum of money around €40 million (£34.7 million) in order to consider cashing in on him.

Bakayoko, who is currently a full-fledged Belgium international, has so far played his whole club career with PSV. Watching what comes next for him will be interesting.

In addition to his domestic responsibilities in the Dutch game, he has gained experience in the Champions League and Europa League over the last few seasons.

Where is Bakayoko performing?

The 20-year-old, who is left-footed, prefers to cut in from the right wing to create a presence near the opponent’s goal.

He has made 64 appearances for PSV thus far, and he has contributed 11 goals and 18 assists thanks to it.

Ji-sung Park, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Memphis Depay, and Jaap Stam are the previous Red Devils from PSV who have joined Man Utd if they win the race to sign him.

With his role, Bakayoko might prove to be a better option than Antony, who hasn’t contributed nearly as many goals from the same position this year.

However, given that he has a number of other fans as well, there is currently no indication that Man Utd is the front-runner for Bakayoko.
